A Picture Says a Thousand Words
|
Looking for pictures that mean the most to you.

We have been getting some very good content suggestions for the Collings Foundation's newsletter (keep em coming!). Looks like it is shaping up to be a great magazine! An idea came up to feature pictures submitted from folks around the United States. What we are looking for are pictures from the Wings of Freedom Tour or other Collings Foundation events that mean the most to you. The sky is the limit! These pictures can be of Veterans reuniting with their aircraft, a particularly unique perspective shot, your kids going for a flight etc. The Collings Foundation receives pictures on a daily basis that brings us to tears, makes us laugh and reminds us why this is so important. This is a great opportunity to share these pictures with you!
Please submit pictures to Hunter Chaney: hchaney@collingsfoundation.org. Limit to one picture and include a brief description.
Still looking for some financial support. We hope you will pitch in to help defray the costs. There is also consideration of offering a limited number of pages for sponsor advertising. Please send your suggestions for content to: hchaney@collingsfoundation.org. Important to keep the initial email brief! We get a lot of email every day and would have a hard time reading and responding to lengthy emails.

A big thanks to Mr. Leno for doing such a great job!

SYZYGY Media Works Inc. announces the premier documentary "Collings Foundation - Preserving the Past". August 16th and 17th, Stow - MA.
We are looking forward to seeing the premier showing of a documentary put together by David Watts, Jr. of Syzygy Media Works, Inc. The showing will take place during our "Race of the Century" event here at the Collings Foundation's headquarters in Stow. David and his crew got some great footage of the bombers while on tour and was able to participate in the WWII Reenactment we had last year. The film provides a unique and compelling perspective on our programs and tours. The Collings Foundation will have another (and larger!) WWII Reenactment again this year - October 11th and 12th. For a look at the teaser clip click here.

Race of the Century - Stow. MA
August 16th and 17th, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
$15 for adults and $10 for children 12 yrs. and younger.
An extraordinary event where the Collings foundation will pit some of the greatest technological advancements in air and ground transportation against each other - in a series of amazing "Races".
During the early 1900's the first electric and hybrid auto carriages were invented. The thought of a "horseless carriage" rumbling down the path - or better yet- a "flying machine" moving through the air seemed downright fantastical. The traditional horse and buggy quickly became history with the emergence of the auto carriages like the 1905 Franklin and aircraft such as the 1909 Bleriot Type XI.
Which technologies will win? There is only one way to find out - time for "Race of the Century"! Will this be a hugely fun event? You betcha! Hope you can make it.
For more information click here.
Here is the line-up:
Horse and Carriage Vs. 1905 Franklin Type A Roadster
Horse and Buggy Vs. 1908 Stanley Steamer Model F
Bleriot Type XI Flying Machine Vs. 1914 Stutz Bearcat
1937 Offy Sprint Racer Vs. 1942 PT-17 Stearman Bi-plane
Food and Wine is fine with a machine from the time: We will be hosting an intimate demonstration of the participating machines - Friday, August 15th. This is a unique opportunity hear about the history of these machines and get a close view of how they operate. Once we get the machines started up we will offer rides. Appetizers will be served and a pay bar will be serving wine and other refreshments. Tickets are $50 per person. To purchase tickets or have questions, please call the Foundation at 978.562.9182. Demonstration event will be 6:00 PM to 8:00ish PM. Your participation helps us preserve these American treasures.

Wings of Freedom Tour - Making our way east.
Hard to imagine the tour has already flown through California, Oregon, Washington, Montana and Wyoming - now off to Colorado, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois and on! The aircraft are in great shape and the crew have been living together in relative peace ; ) Check the schedule and come give the bombers, fighter and crew a visit! Your participation is what keeps these aircraft flying for future generations. (Photo taken by Tom Wilmer - on the move from Camarillo to Paso Robles).
