Most people know the Collings Foundation for our collection of World War II and Vietnam Era aircraft, but did you know that we also restore and preserve aircraft of all eras, including those found in the first decade of powered flight? One exciting project underway in Wenatchee, WA at Century Aviation is our 1914 Curtiss Model F Flying Boat - slated to take its first flight this summer! Read more about it at: century-aviation.com/essential_grid/1914-curtiss-model-f-flying-boat/...
1914 Curtiss Model F Flying Boat These flying boats were powered by a single OX-5 engine mounted above the fuselage in a pusher configuration. The pilot and a single passenger sat side by side in an open cockpit. The biplane wings had large ailerons mounted on the outer rear struts between the upper...
NEWS FLASH! The Collings Foundation is proud to announce that our Douglas A-1E Skyraider will be joining the Wings of Freedom Tour for the California part of the tour from April 26 through June 10! We are now booking 25-minute flight experiences at visits around California (see schedule at: www.collingsfoundation.org/events/category/wings-of-freedom-tour/)
Flights are $900 per person for the cockpit seat and $450 per person for the each of the four rear seats. The participant in the cockpit will not be able to take the controls, it is only a ride. We need to have a minimum of one person in front and two passengers in back, OR four passengers in back to make a flight go. Much like the B-25 and P-51, we can fly flights in the Skyraider at anytime during the day. Please note that passenger compartment access requires passengers to be able bodied, as you need to climb unassisted on the wing and up the side of the fuselage.
We are VERY excited to announce that the newly acquired Collings Foundation P-38L Lightning will be attending our airshow! You may have seen it at last weekend's LA County Airshow or perhaps tucked away the last few months at the Planes of Fame Air Museum, and we're beyond excited to have it join the line up of SEVERAL P-38 Lightnings that will attend our airshow! Built in early 1945, this P-38 was designed to be a photo reconnaissance Lightning variation. Stored in Kingman, AZ after the war, it went through several civilian hands and was used for aerial mapping for a time. It came to Chino in the early 80s for a restoration and conversion to a fighter (removing the photo recon nose) then was shipped to UK where it was flown for a year. It came back to the US in the early 90s and was eventually put on display at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon. It was finally acquired by the Collings Foundation in 2016.
See this remarkable P-38L Lightning at the 2018 Planes of Fame Air Show! Stay tuned to this page for more performers and displays at the airshow, and get your tickets here: goo.gl/MYNmY5...
